SIG purpose/mission:
The APA Ethics SIG is a group of individuals with an interest in the application of ethical theory in the context of clinical work, research, and teaching. It is a venue for sharing views and concerns about the impact of ethics in these settings in order to promote advances in physician ethics and professionalism.

Current SIG goals:
To create discussion around current ethical dilemmas among ethics SIG members and PAS attendees.   

Annual summary:
We would like to announce our new SIG co-chair, Erica Salter, PhD.  Dr. Salter PhD is the Program Director of Health Care Ethics and an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the Center for Health Care Ethics, Saint Louis University. Welcome, Dr. Salter!

Ethics Contest Winners  

In 2018, the Section on Bioethics of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Academic Pediatric Association Ethics Special Interest Group held the first joint Bioethics Essay Contest, open to all residents in pediatrics or medicine-pediatrics, and all pediatric subspecialty fellows (including fellows in pediatric surgery, pediatric psychiatry, and pediatric neurology) in North America. The winning essays were published in the AAP Section on Bioethics Fall Newsletter. SIG workshop at PAS in Baltimore, April 27-30, 2019

We are looking forward to the Ethics SIG workshop at PAS in Baltimore, April 27-30, 2019, and hope you will plan to join us.   Our topic this year is “Patient, Friend or Both?
