SIG purpose/mission:
The Fellowship Training SIG is a forum for fellowship faculty, fellows, graduates of fellowship programs, and anyone passionate about fellowship training.

Current SIG goals:
1) To support conversation and collaboration among a community of colleagues involved in fellowship training.
2) To share and discuss successful strategies, challenges, and curricular innovations in fellowship training.
3) To advocate for Academic General Pediatric fellowship training, including funding and other program needs.

Annual summary:
This year, we focused on best practices in evaluation. We had 13 fellowship directors and faculty at our program this year in Toronto. Three programs shared aspects of best practices in evaluation:

  • Ryan Van Ramshorst, MD, University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio
  • Cynthia Rand, MD, MPH, University of Rochester School of Medicine & Dentistry
  • Kristen Copeland, MD, Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center

In addition, we discussed how to create a shared resource and tool library for SIG members to access that might help support fellowship enhancements. We will be working on developing this over the summer. At the end of the session, Paul Darden was invited to give an overview of the new GAP fellowship match program. We had a lively discussion of ways to make this work well for all involved based on the experiences of SIG members who are involved in other match programs, including hospitalist medicine.  Once again, as we introduced ourselves this year, we asked each participant to recommend a book and podcast they had enjoyed recently (loosely defined)! We compiled the list and circulated it for attendees.
