Annual summary:
The APA Global Health SIG continued to advance the cause of Global Child Health this year, collaborating with national leaders to provide an innovative program at the 2018 Pediatric Academic Societies Meeting. This year, we partnered with the Consortium of Centers for Global Child Health to present sessions focused on migrating populations. The title of our SIG program was “Practical Strategies Addressing Psychological and Emotional Health of Refugee and Migrant Pediatric Populations”, which featured two children who had recently travelled through the refugee system to reside in Canada along with the director of a local refugee advocacy center in Toronto. We also featured two mental health experts to discuss the mental health issues in migrating populations and practical strategies for addressing these in pediatric practices.  Additionally, we were proud to award the annual APA Global Health Award to Dr. Febronie Mushimiyimana for her work on a care transitions for adolescents with HIV in Rwanda. We also continue to be active advocating for a continued strong Global Health presence at the annual PAS meeting to ensure continued excellent Global Health content for our APA members.
