- Special Interest Groups
The Academic Pediatric Association is looking for active or emeritus members to mentor their Special Interest Groups (SIGs)! More information on this new APA role is below. Volunteers will be assigned a mentor roll after being confirmed with the current Special Interest Group Chairs. If you are interested in volunteering to be a SIG mentor, please contact Laura Turner at Laurat@academicpeds.org with your CV and the SIGs you are interested in mentoring.
Volunteer Position: APA Special Interest Group (SIG) Mentor
Description: The SIG mentor is an active or emeritus member of the APA who has achieved the rank of Professor.
Responsibilities: The SIG mentor will serve the SIG and its leaders as an advisor through activities such as:
- Participating in calls, listserv discussions and annual SIG meeting at PAS
- Providing counsel to the leaders and/or annual SIG meeting planners about program content and structure
- Facilitating connections with national and/or internationally known speakers and subject-matter experts for the annual SIG meeting
- Identifying potential funding sources and assisting with funding requests for special programs and/or projects led by the SIG
- Advising SIG leaders and/or members on scholarly work and/or academic advancement related to their activities in the SIG
- Advising SIG leaders on their professional development as leaders and as leadership challenges arise
- Serving as a sponsor for SIG leaders and/or members to facilitate engagement in other APA and national professional development activities
- Serving as role model for SIG leaders and/or members
