SIG Annual Report

The Newborn SIG has had a lively 2018 so far! Here are our updates:

  1. Name Change: We started off by changing the name of the SIG from 'nursery SIG' to 'Newborn SIG' to reflect the changing landscape of the care of term and late preterm newborns where more newborns are rooming in with their mothers on post-partum units.
  2. Listserv: Our listserv has been actively engaged in discussing issues pertaining to the care of newborns. Recent discussions have included the care of newborns with Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome and the challenges around keeping the mother and baby together for the duration of the hospital stay, practice variation in the timing of circumcisions and testing newborns for cytomegalovirus.
  3. SIG meeting at PAS: We are looking forward to an exciting SIG meeting in Toronto this year. The Newborn SIG will meet on May 5th from 3-6pm. Our meeting will feature keynote speaker, Pablo Sanchez, Director of Clinical and Translational Research in Neonatology from the Ohio state University Nationwide Children's Hospital. Dr. Sanchez will be speaking about Congenital Zika Virus in the United States. As in previous years, we will host a poster session on well newborn topics. New this year, we are going also have 4 brief presentations on "Baby Hot Topics" led by 4 SIG members (Diane Madlon Kay, Carl Seashore, Jennifer Hudson and Ilse Larson). Following the end of the SIG meeting, members will be invited to a networking event from 6:15-7:15pm on May 5th at the Loose Moose (146 Front St W, Toronto), a few minutes walk from the Convention Center. Appetizers provided by the SIG!!! (Cash bar for drinks.) Come join us for some informal down-time!

SIG purpose/mission:
To share and discuss evidence based information and determine best clinical practices for term and late preterm newborns.
